Length 2.8-3.2mm (unfed females), 2.0-2.2mm (males). Engorged females may be up to 8mm in length.

On host animals, or where the hosts are found. Often found in kennels.
More prevalent in warmer months.
Hosts include dogs, foxes, badgers, sheep, horses and cats.
Widespread.
Rarely recorded in VC55.
