Empis nigritarsis - Empis nigritarsis
This is a small dagger fly, being perhaps 5 mm long. Although it is blackish in general appearance, it is noticeable because of its yellow legs with black tarsi.
Predatory fly that can be seen around trees and shrubs.
May and June are perhaps the peak months.
Widespread in the southern half of Britain.
Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
