Description

Similar to several other Melangyna species but can be identified by careful examination.

Habitat

Deciduous woodland and other well wooded areas. Fond of sunbathing on tree trunks.

When to see it

Usually seen from March to early June.

Life History

Frequent on Willow catkins and Wild Cherry blossom in spring.

UK Status

Widespread and fairly frequent in Britain.

Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland.
