Sermylassa halensis

Description

4.4 to 7.0mm. Elytra metallic green or blue, occasionally coppery, with dense, moderately coarse puncturation. Head and pronotum yellowish brown with a dark spot on the top of the head. Pronotum smooth and shiny, rectangular, twice as wide as long with two large depressions. Legs yellowish-brown apart from tarsi and tips of tibia which are darker. Antennae dark.

March to November.

Life History

Eggs laid at base of the hostplant in summer overwinter before the larvae develop and pupate in spring. Adults emerge in the summer, feeding on foliage. Some adults may overwinter in mild localities.

UK Status

Widespread and frequent in England and Wales. Very local in Scotland and Ireland.

VC55 Status

Frequent. There were 27 records in VC55 to the end of spring 2015.
