Chiffchaff - Phylloscopus collybita

A small olive-brown warbler, which actively flits through trees and shrubs, with a distinctive tail-wagging movement. Less bright and with darker legs than the similar Willow Warbler and readily distinguished by its song, from where it gets its name.

Similar to Willow Warbler but tends to be more grey brown with a less distinct supercillium. Leg colour usually dark but can be a slightly lighter brown

Lowland woodlands, parks and large gardens.

All year round, but most arrive in late March and depart in August and September.

The Chiffchaff picks insects from trees and also flies out to snap them up in flight.

Widespread in Britain in the summer months, but more scare in the winter

Common in Leicestershire and Rutland in the summer but scarce in the winter.
