Leucozona laternaria

Description

The scutellum of this species is black with just the tip yellow and the front and mid legs are extensively black on the tibiae and tarsi.

Habitat

Lowland habitats with lush vegetation, especially woodland edges where umbellifers are present.

When to see it

May to September peaking in July.

Life History

The larvae feed on aphids, usually on Hogweed and other umbellifers.

UK Status

Fairly common throughout Britain, though less frequent in eastern areas.

VC55 Status

Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland.
