Fragrant Funnel - Clitocybe fragrans

Description

Cap 1.5 to 4 cm, flat and sometimes slightly depressed. It is pale yellowish-brown when wet, whitish-cream when dry with darker centre. The margin is finely striate. The stem is concolorous with cap. This fungus has a strong aniseed fragrance.

Found amongst leaf litter, moss or grass beneath deciduous trees.

Late summer to early winter.

Widespread and fairly frequent in Britain.
