Description

Ear shaped, attached to the substrate by one edge, upper surface finely downy, lower surface smooth, pinkish brown, to about 8 cm across. The flesh is purple-brown, gelatinous, tough, becoming hard when dry.

On wood from deciduous trees and shrubs, favouring Elder

When to see it

All year round

UK Status

Common in Britain, although there are less records from West Wales and the far North.

VC55 Status

Common in Leicestershire and Rutland.
